The Kola wind farm will be put into operation in January 2023

27 october 2022
The Kola Wind Farm, which is the largest wind farm beyond the Arctic Circle in Russia, will begin operation in January 2023, said Oleg Kosmenyuk, Deputy General Director - Director of Generation at PJSC Enel Russia.
"We are putting the Kola wind Farm into operation in two stages. The first stage is expected on January 1, 2023, and, accordingly, in the first quarter of 2023 we will complete the second stage," Kosmenyuk said.
According to the estimates of Enel Russia, which is implementing the wind farm project, the cost of building the Kola wind farm is estimated at 20 billion rubles, but the final calculation can be made only after the station is put into operation.
Enel Russia will use the experience of operation of the Azov WPP when servicing the Kola WPP, Kosmenyuk said.
"We have even completed the wind farm partially without Western parts, 68% are localized at various plants in our country, so we have full confidence that we will be able to successfully carry out maintenance of the Kola wind farm. We have a similar wind farm located in Azov, we already have 1.5 years of operating experience, and there are no problems with these nodes in terms of their technical reliability. From the point of view of maintenance, we know how to do it," Kosmenyuk said.
"It is very good that, despite the sanctions, this wind farm has been completed, and now all 57 turbines are in place and ready to work. 200 MW of energy will additionally go into the grid, into the unified energy system of the country in terms of environmentally friendly electricity. The Kola wind farm has become a strategic project in the Murmansk Region," said Andrey Chibis, the governor of the Arctic Region.
The Kola wind farm is located 80 km from Murmansk and is the largest wind farm in the Arctic Circle. After commissioning, the plant will be able to generate about 750 GWh per year, while avoiding the emission of about 600,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The wind farm is equipped with 57 turbines and is located on a total area of 257 hectares, TASS news agency writes.
