Arctic today. A site for scrap recycling appears in the Norilsk industrial region

07 november 2022

(porarctic.ru) - Nornickel has opened a new site for scrap recycling. The site will become the destination for the delivery of all metal waste that will be collected during the dismantling of buildings, cleaning of territories, and other activities in the Clean Norilsk project. Further, the recycled scrap will be taken to the "mainland" for recycling purposes. A message about this was published on November 1 in the official Nornickel’s account in Telegram.

According to Nornickel, the site is equipped with the most modern equipment for scrap recycling. One of the newly installed units is an eighteen-meter shear press capable of shredding up to 20 tons of bulky scrap metal per hour. Hydraulic shears are available to specialists to recycle thinner metal. The staff of the new division employs more than a hundred people.

This site for scrap recycling is an important part of the Clean Norilsk project. After all, cleaning the region from industrial waste involves, among other things, the dismantling of abandoned buildings and structures; according to ecologists, during 2021 alone, 108 such buildings were demolished in Taimyr, about 1 million square meters of territory were cleared. The resulting garbage must be processed, minimizing the cost of its delivery to the "mainland" - and the mentioned site will help in this project.

Recall that the Clean Norilsk project is part of the Clean Arctic federal project. The company has allocated 40 billion rubles for it, which will be invested over a ten-year period. It is expected that during this time 500 buildings will be dismantled in the Norilsk industrial region, and the specialists and contractors of the project will clean up 24 million square meters of territory and remove 2 million tons of waste.
