Pomorie to receive a subsidy for a garbage sorting complex

15 november 2022
The Arkhangelsk Region has been selected by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation for federal co-financing of expenses for the construction of solid municipal waste management facilities, said Alexander Stotsky, Director General of the Arctic Development Project Office.
The application of the Arkhangelsk region provides for the creation of a waste sorting complex with a capacity of 70,000 tons per year of sorted and 28,000 tons per year of recyclable waste in the Kotlas district. The construction will be carried out under a concession. The project is included in the territorial waste management scheme, the deadline for its implementation is December 31, 2024.
The national project "Ecology" provides for one hundred percent sorting of garbage and achieving a twofold reduction in the volume of waste sent to landfills in the Russian Federation by 2030.
Currently, only 43% of municipal solid waste is processed in Russia; garbage disposal to landfills is still widely used, not recycling. The "garbage problem" is particularly acute in the Arctic region, suffering from overflow with waste.
