Norilsk Nickel presents two more apartments and certificates for household appliances to children of Taimyr

22 november 2022
The company allocated nine million rubles this year to help Taimyr orphans

At a meeting of the coordinating council of communities of the indigenous minorities of the North following the results of 2022, Nikolai Utkin, senior vice president of the company and head of its Norilsk Division, handed over the keys to two new apartments in Dudinka and certificates for household appliances to orphans from among the indigenous minorities of Taimyr, Taimyr Telegraph said in a correspondence from Norilsk.
For these purposes, Norilsk Nickel's investments in 2022 were supposed to amount to five million rubles, but the company decided to allocate an additional four million. As a result, there were five apartments for Taimyr orphans, as was the case last year, according to the correspondence.
“The program to support indigenous minorities is gaining momentum,” said Nikolai Utkin. “For me, the result is when there are actually completed works and implemented projects. This is housing in the villages, computer classes for children. Large projects are provided with funding, which is important in today's realities. Big business has also been affected by the sanctions policy. Nevertheless, all our social programs, including those related to the socio-economic development of Taimyr, have remained and will be implemented in full.”
According to Anfisa Nikiforova, Head of Indigenous Peoples of the North at Norilsk Nickel’s Polar Division, this year’s plans have not only been 100% fulfilled, but the company is ahead of schedule in housing construction in the Taimyr villages: “Open and constructive dialogue has been held between the company and the communities, during which we can openly put forward ideas and jointly implement them. There are many initiatives coming from the communities, which is very pleasing. Moreover, today 18 projects are being implemented on the territory of Taimyr with the support of the company. This is primarily the development of traditional types of economic activity. Next year, at the initiative of the communities, Norilsk Nickel plans to purchase portable cabins for fishing and hunting sites.”
The company's projects generally cover seven areas: the development of traditional types of economic activities of indigenous ethnic groups, housing construction in settlements, healthcare, education, culture, sports, and tourism. In total, the program included more than 40 events.
Earlier, traditional tents were purchased for the Taimyr nomads at the expense of Norilsk Nickel.
