Nornickel decides to double assistance to the polar bear Dixon

12 december 2022

(rossaprimavera.ru) - Doubling donations for the polar bear Dixon rescued in the Krasnoyarsk Territory will be provided by Nornickel, Andrey Grachev, Nornickel’s Vice President for Federal and Regional Programs, told reporters on December 9.

As one of the company’s top managers said on the sidelines of the Arctic: Present and Future forum, Svetlana Radionova, the head of Rosprirodnazdor, asked to help the bear, which is currently in the zoo.  That is why the Nornickel management decided that any donation to the animal fund at the end of the year will be doubled at the expense of the company.

In September, a wounded polar bear was discovered on the polar island of Dixon in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.  The animal was promptly delivered to Moscow for emergency care: it was found to have several dozen wounds from buckshot, a gunshot wound, paresis of the hind legs, dehydration and paralysis of the back.

The bear, nicknamed Dixon, retained only the mobility of the head and front legs.  He was left at the Moscow Zoo because its injuries were incompatible with survival in the wild.  For the bear, it is planned to create a rehabilitation pool with a lift, which will be needed if it does not restore the ability to swim in the water.
