Nature reserve lesson "7 Wonders of the Arctic" presented at the international forum of volunteers

14 december 2022

(wildnet.ru) - The “Seven Wonders of the Arctic” nature reserve lesson prepared on the initiative of Norilsk Nickel with the participation of the company’s volunteers and experts from the Nature Reserve Embassy Charitable Educational Foundation, was presented in the capital at the largest annual event of Russian volunteers, the International Forum for Civic Participation #MYVMESTE.

Norilsk Nickel was one of the enterprises that presented at the forum a useful and dynamically developing area of social activity — corporate volunteering. The Reserve Embassy Foundation has been an expert partner of the enterprise in its initiatives in the field of environmental corporate volunteering for several years now. One of the key areas of work is the involvement of the company's employees, especially young people, in helping the natural areas of the Arctic. The unique, valuable, formidable, but fragile and vulnerable region has suffered a lot from human economic activity. Through education and involvement in volunteering, the Reserve Embassy Foundation helps to develop and implement useful projects for the restoration and conservation of the Arctic nature.

At the International Civic Participation Forum #MYVMESTE, the team of Norilsk Nickel and the Reserve Embassy Foundation presented a unique Arctic lesson. The "7 Wonders of the Arctic" lesson was developed with the participation of caring employees of the Norilsk Nickel company. It can be held not only in the Arctic regions, but also anywhere else in the country: just register on the Reserved Lesson portal and get all the materials. The lesson introduces participants to the Arctic nature, its features, amazing inhabitants and landscapes, and also talks about the problems faced by the northernmost regions of our country and gives an understanding of what is needed to solve them.

Ksenia Gasparyan, Development Director of the Reserve Embassy Foundation, said: “It was very important for us to share our ideas and best practices with volunteers from all over the country who gathered at the We Are Together forum. Norilsk Nickel made such a gift - our jointly created Arctic lesson is posted in the public domain, and anyone can teach it. Moreover, by making a photo report on the results of the lesson and uploading it on the Nature Reserve Lesson portal, you receive a letter of thanks for introducing your audience to the Arctic. Thanks to this, educators and volunteer educators can talk about the Arctic throughout the country. And this is very important, because little is known about the region. For example, here at the forum, many assumed that the Arctic zone is only where the North Pole is. Or they said that the entire Arctic is a protected area (although this is not at all true: oil and gas are actively extracted in the Arctic, ships sail, and only a small part of it is reserved).

The experts of the Nature Reserve Embassy Foundation have proven that environmental lessons can take place not in the format of a boring lecture, but dynamically, in a playful way. The forum presented interesting quizzes, tests, puzzles, games, including outdoor games - even preschoolers can play them. As part of the forum, volunteers independently conducted a lesson on the “Seven Wonders of the Arctic” collecting the most positive feedback.

FOR REFERENCE:

The country's main volunteer forum, the International Civic Participation Forum #MYVMESTE, was held from 4 to 7 December at the Moscow Manege. More than 10,000 volunteers from 45 countries took part in the event. The Forum was visited by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The forum was attended by representatives of socially oriented non-profit organizations and volunteer movements, public authorities, media and companies that comply with the principles of Sustainable Development. The purpose of the event is to form a community of caring people, leaders of social change who share the values of #MYVMESTE and are ready to act to improve the quality of life in Russia.
