Yevgeny Golubev elected the new rector of Russia’s Polar State University

26 january 2023
Yevgeny Golubev, who has been the acting rector of Fedorovsky Polar State University since April last year, was elected its rector by majority vote this last Tuesday in elections held at the university.
The participants of the elections voted in favor of the university development program proposed by Yevgeny Golubev. “This is the program that we devised together with the greater part of the university team,” said Yevgeny Golubev. “There are many meetings behind it, which, no doubt, will continue. And for us, the strategic task is to maintain a high level of communication within the team, to form the identity of Polar University.”
Yevgeny Golubev graduated from Tyumen State University, after which he worked at the same university in various positions. At Lomonosov Moscow State University he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Geographical Sciences. He took part in a series of advanced training courses at the Moscow School of Management "Skolkovo". For about 10 years Yevgeny Golubev headed the technological park of Tyumen State University.
Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Pyotr Kucherenko, who came to Norilsk to support the candidacy of Yevgeny Golubev on behalf of the ministry, commented on the election results: “Open, honest, competitive elections were held, we see this by the result. The North is an area of alternative opinions, which makes this victory even more valuable. I congratulate Yevgeny Golubev on this good result, on the support of most of the staff in the rector elections for the next five years.”
The head of Norilsk, Dmitry Karasev speaking about the role of the university in the life of the Arctic, emphasized: “The further development of the city, and, I am not afraid of these words, the entire Arctic zone and our country to a great extent depends on how Polar State University is developing and which kind of results it yields. The presence of such an educational institution makes Norilsk a pivotal city in the Arctic. The university is growing exceeding its current level, like the city, constantly setting new tasks and new goals to be reached. Of course, it is difficult to develop without our Polar State University. It's good that we have it."
