The unified list of indigenous peoples of the Russian Federation to be constantly updated

10 february 2023
The Unified Register of Indigenous Minorities of the Russian Federation will be updated on an ongoing basis. Now less than a third of all representatives of indigenous peoples have been included in it, specialists are processing a large number of applications, Grigory Ledkov, president of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation, told TASS.
The inclusion of an indigenous representative in a single list facilitates his access to support measures and simplifies the registration of all the benefits. Ledkov clarified that the list is being compiled by specialists of the Federal Agency for Nationalities.
The experience of creating and maintaining a single list of persons belonging to indigenous minorities is the first in the history of the Russian Federation. Currently, representatives of 47 indigenous peoples live in the Arctic zone of Russia, Siberia and the Far East. They have a special status and the opportunity to enjoy a number of preferences from the state.
