Norilsk Nickel shared its experience in supporting the indigenous peoples of Taimyr

The Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum hosted a discussion "On the interaction of subsoil users of industrial companies with indigenous peoples as an element of a business strategy based on the principles of environmental, social and corporate responsibility (ESG)".
The discussion was attended by representatives of indigenous minorities of the North, local administrations, companies conducting economic activities in the North, as well as scientists of the Siberian Federal University.
Representatives of Norilsk Nickel told about their experience of social responsibility in places of traditional economic activity of the peoples of Taimyr. Thus, within the framework of the program to promote the development of indigenous peoples of the North, the company acquires apartments for orphans, builds houses in villages, plans to erect rural houses of culture, paramedic and obstetric stations, provides schools with Internet access, subsidizes student education, and conducts serious work to preserve the heritage of indigenous peoples.
"The company adheres to all the points reflected in the standard of responsibility of the Arctic zone, the necessary examinations are carried out, the policy on interaction with indigenous peoples is approved. A large team is working for the benefit of the development of the territory," said Anfisa Nikiforova, head of the department for work with indigenous peoples of the North of the Polar Branch of Norilsk Nickel.
At the initiative of the tribal communities, the company has created a coordinating council, which supports additional projects – the production of souvenirs, the development of ecotourism, the development of an Ethnocombo mobile application, an electronic offline translator, which will be filled with native speakers, and others.
In general, the implementation of the five-year program of socio-economic development of Taimyr will cost Norilsk Nickel two billion rubles, ttelegraf.ru writes.
