Norilsk Nickel increases transportation along the Northern Sea Route

26 april 2023
In two years Norilsk Nickel's traffic volumes along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) increased from 1.5 million tons to 2.1 million tons, and the intensity of shipping in the Dudinsk seaport increased by almost 80%, ttelegraf.ru reports.
The company has increased shipments via the NSR by 40% in two years, which became possible thanks to the involvement of 14 vessels of the additional fleet, the tripling of icebreaking support, as well as investments in the modernization of the ports of Dudinka and Murmansk, Director of the Strategic Planning Department of Norilsk Nickel Sergey Dubovitsky said at the Arctic – Regions forum in Arkhangelsk.
"The growth of cargo traffic has become possible thanks to investments in the development of the ports of Dudinka and Murmansk. Thus, seven billion rubles were invested in the modernization of the port of Dudinka from 2019 to 2022 – portal cranes were replaced by 100%, as well as ten mobile cranes with cranes with a doubled lifting capacity – 124 tons, the fleet of containers and equipment was expanded. It is planned to build and reconstruct berths," Dubovitsky said.
According to him, in the port of Murmansk, the volume of transshipment of Norilsk Nickel cargo in 2022 increased by 21% compared to the average indicators of 2017-2020 – up to 1.7 million tons.
