The Government of the Russian Federation to be engaged in the development of Arctic petrochemistry

24 may 2023

Roadmap for the creation of petrochemical clusters in the Arctic zone of Russia and the Far East until 2025 approved by the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation, goarctic.ru reported. The document establishes a schedule for the development of support measures capable of restarting the Russian petrochemical industry.
The program, which will make it possible to identify promising areas for the development of petrochemistry, should be approved by July 2024. And by December 2023 the ministries will have to develop mechanisms to stimulate the development of the Arctic and Far Eastern petrochemical clusters, including through the creation of natural gas processing facilities.
Among the accompanying key tasks outlined in the document are the development of transport and logistics infrastructure and the training of qualified personnel for the industry. Another point of the government plan involves the approval of a comprehensive program for the development of the resource potential of the Yamal Peninsula.
The role of the Arctic in the light of the creation and development of its own replacement capacities is difficult to overestimate – it is in the Arctic Circle that the most promising deposits of hydrocarbons are concentrated, which are raw materials for industry enterprises.
