The UAV-based ice reconnaissance complex has been successfully tested in the Arctic. The uniqueness of the tests is that the drone took off and landed on the helicopter pad of a drifting nuclear icebreaker. This was reported in the Directorate of the Northern Sea Route (NSR).
Experts assessed the operation of the aircraft's onboard systems, geolocation, and the transmission of images of the ice situation.
According to Maxim Kulinko, Deputy director of the Directorate of the Northern Sea Route of the Rosatom State Corporation, the complex is one of the elements of the digital ecosystem of the NSR that the company is creating. In addition to the drone, it will include a single platform of digital services, a data fund and on-board measurement systems.
The digital ecosystem will improve the safety of navigation, as well as the economic efficiency of sea cargo transportation in the Arctic. It is planned that the system will be created in 2024, and in 2025 it will be fully put into operation.
