Climatologists from European countries and Canada have concluded that groundwater sources in the Arctic contain a lot of methane and, thus, represent a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the authors of the publication in Nature Geoscience, if global warming accelerates, emissions may become even more significant.
Recently, scientists from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks came to the conclusion that the increase in the amount of methane in the Arctic tundra indirectly contributes to the increase in the number of beavers, whose activity leads to changes in water and geographical conditions, mk.ru notes.
