Norilsk airport may start operating around the clock

11 july 2023

Norilsk Airport in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory plans to switch to a 24-hour work schedule, TASS quotes the city administration as saying in its strategy report.

"The plan is to create a new service and maintenance center for aviation equipment, additional infrastructure for personnel rotational work and air carriers. We propose changing the operating mode of the airport and switching to a 24/7 format, which increases the time for receiving aircraft," according to a report. The timing of this transition has not yet been specified.

The airport is located 35 km from Norilsk in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. It entered service in 1950. The airport is currently open during daylight hours.

The document also takes into account that at the beginning of the coming year the airport was given the international status, which "opens a new milestone in the history of the development of the air transport hub." According to the strategy, the airport's passenger traffic in 2035 will exceed 1.3 million passengers per year, which is more than double the passenger traffic in 2021 when it amounted to 604 900 passengers.
