The Chinese scientific expedition to the Arctic Ocean set off on the icebreaker "Xuelong-2" from Shanghai. The length of the route of the 13th expedition will be about 15.500 nautical miles. The vessel will return at the end of September this year, ru.arctic.ru reports.
The expedition is designed to expand China's capabilities in the field of environmental protection of the Arctic Ocean, which quickly responds to changes in the Arctic, and will also provide key information necessary for studies of the dynamics of mid-ocean ridges.
Chinese scientists will conduct, in particular, monitoring of pollutants and a comprehensive study of sea ice.
