The majority of oversized cargo transportation to be carried out in the Arctic

24 august 2023

A significant share of operations for the transportation of oversized (project) cargo will be concentrated in the Arctic in the coming years, said Alexey Milovantsev, the technical director of LLC Northern Alliance which takes up contracts on oversized cargo transportation.

According to him, a large share of the Russian market for the transportation of oversized cargo will be concentrated not only on the Northern Sea Route, but also beyond its borders, including the port of Murmansk, the Russian ports of the Baltic and the waters of the Pacific region.

Milovantsev noted that Murmansk transport hub development as a cargo generation center facilitates the construction of new infrastructure and industrial facilities on the Northern Sea Route and provides growth of the number of orders for the transportation of oversized cargo. At the same time, there are difficulties in meeting the demand for technically complex transportation in terms of the fleet of the required class.

The Northern Alliance estimates the volume of the oversized transportation market for projects on the Northern Sea Route at 100 billion rubles a year, b-port.com reports.
