The Russian authorities are striving to develop the Arctic regions of the country, offering to create suitable conditions for life while building schools, kindergartens, social and cultural facilities, and organizing vacations for children in the summer.
In particular, this opinion was expressed by Andrey Shevchenko, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Self-Government and Northern Affairs. According to him, it is also worth paying a particular attention to the creation of a modern transport infrastructure and logistics.
"We see this problem when we go on official visits. In Yakutia, for example, some residents have full access to other settlements for less than three months a year," the senator says. "This is a vital direction in the Arctic as a whole."
According to the senator, the "strongholds" of the Russian Arctic are developing dynamically today: "If we take the Arctic region as a whole, indicators of domestic product growth and industrial development are higher than the Russian average. This is the result, among other things, of those support measures that are in place for the Far East and the Arctic.”
The Federation Council also noted the importance of private investment in the region. “It is important to involve companies operating in the Arctic in this work,” said Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Galina Karelova.
As positive examples, she named the participation of Norilsk Nickel in the implementation of a comprehensive development plan for the city of Norilsk, within which modern residential buildings, kindergartens, a school and a clinic will be built, and a children's rehabilitation center will be created in Yakutsk at the expense of ALROSA. NOVATEK will finance the construction of a dormitory for a school in the village of Gyda in Yamal.
