The first vessel traveling through the Northern Sea Route arrived in the Kaliningrad region, the governor of the region Anton Alikhanov said on his channel in Telegram messenger.
"The ship left Shanghai, went to Arkhangelsk, now it is in Baltiysk, the final destination is St. Petersburg," Alikhanov wrote.
According to him, transport companies plan to make this route permanent. It is cheaper and faster to deliver goods through the Northern Sea Route than through the Suez Canal.
In August of this year, the first Gazprom gas carrier navigated along the Northern Sea Route. For the first time ever, it delivered a batch of liquefied natural gas of Gazprom's own production to China along this route, rbc.ru recalls.
