Project 10510 icebreaker "Leader" to be built within schedule

24 october 2023

No changes in the production dates of the icebreakers Project 22220 "Arctic" and Project 10510 "Leader" are expected, as reported by TASS citing Vladimir Aptekarev, Deputy General Director for Shipbuilding, Floating Energy and Marine Technology of JSC Atomenergomash (Rosatom's engineering division).

"To date, all the main technical base solutions for the serial nuclear icebreaker project have already been highly localized thanks to domestic equipment. And the percentage of localization is definitely not decreasing. Since the reactor, the turbine, control and propulsion systems for the icebreakers are already completely Russian from the very beginning, the ship itself, as well as the floating power unit, are rightfully the most highly localized domestic vessels," Aptekarev said.

According to the representative of the state corporation, the construction of the Project 10510 "Leader" icebreaker is scheduled to be finished in December 2027 at the SSK Zvezda shipyard. The vessel will be named "Russia". The third and fourth serial icebreakers of the Project 22220 - "Yakutia" and "Chukotka" - are expected to be commissioned in December 2024 and December 2026, respectively.

The commissioning of the fifth and sixth serial icebreakers, the construction of which has not yet begun, is scheduled for 2028 and 2030.
