The State Duma allowed the export of LNG from the Arctic

25 october 2023

Developers of natural resource deposits whose operations are fully or partially located north of the 67th degree of north latitude, have been granted the exclusive right to export liquefied natural gas (LNG).

This law was adopted by the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

Precisely, the new law is aimed at gas fields located in parts of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Nenets and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Districts. The adoption of the legislative act will make it possible to monetize large gas reserves remote from Gazprom's unified system and create conditions for increasing LNG production and exports.

At the same time, the existing list of subsoil users who are allowed to export remains.

"The adoption of this law will enable the production of 45 million tons of LNG. This is in addition to the roughly 30 million tons being currently produced," said Pavel Zavalny, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy.
