280 scientists took part in six scientific expeditions of Norilsk Nickel and the Russian Academy of Sciences

22 november 2023

280 scientists from 20 scientific institutes took part in joint expeditions of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS) and Norilsk Nickel over the course of 4 years, TASS quotes Norilsk Nickel vice-president for federal and regional programs Andrey Grachev.

“In total, six scientific expeditions have been carried out over the past four years. In total, 280 scientists and research workers from 20 scientific institutions in Siberia took part in all these studies. <…> Current conditions are forcing businesses to rebuild their strategies, and the government to reformat the practice of environmental protection measures. But the basic values remain unchanged - our national goals are a move towards environmental modernization of industry and a consistent reduction in the negative impact on the environment,” Grachev said.

According to him, research was carried out in three areas: determining the natural balance in the territory of the company’s activities, developing the most optimal methods for cleaning soil, water and air, as well as creating rules of conduct for enterprises in the Arctic. Agreements have also been concluded with Rosrybolovstvo on the release of fish fry and with the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources on the conservation of biodiversity and the development of eco-tourism within the framework of the national project “Ecology”.
