The XIII International Forum "Arctic: Present and Future" to be held on December 7-8 in St. Petersburg is dedicated to the development of proposals to solve the pressing problems of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.
"In addition to the mineral richness [of the Arctic] and the increasing importance of the Northern Sea Route as the shortest maritime and completely Russian route connecting Europe and the Far East, the Arctic is also a place of original culture of indigenous peoples, unique nature, and much more. Arctic exploration tasks stimulate the development of innovative technologies and industry in other regions," said Artur Chilingarov, Special Representative of the President of Russia for international cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic, President of the Association of Polar Explorers and Chairman of the organizing committee of the forum.
According to him, the Arctic zone is becoming a prestigious platform for professional growth for recent graduates mastering new Arctic professions, and a territory for the development of new sectors of the economy, such as tourism and the creative industries.
The outcome of the forum will be the adoption of the next resolution, which includes about 1,000 different initiatives of its participants.
Every year the international forum "Arctic: Present and Future" gathers more than 2,000 participants from Russia and abroad. The event was organized with the support of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the State Commission for the Development of the Arctic, the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic and other relevant ministries and departments.
