The Northern Fleet discovered 14 new islands in the Arctic

Over the past decade, the Northern Fleet has discovered and described more than 40 new geographical objects in the Arctic, including 14 islands and 4 islets, 15 capes, 3 straits and 5 bays in the Franz Josef Land and Novaya Zemlya archipelagos.

This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, who spoke at the opening of the International Arctic Forum in St. Petersburg.

According to the admiral, in the course of research in the seas of the Arctic Ocean, about 2,000 linear kilometers of measurements and gravimetric surveys are carried out annually, as well as studies on standard hydrological sections, topogeodesic work to better outline the coastline.
