The second hydro-meteorological satellite Arktika-M No. 2, that launched from the Baikonur spaceport with a Soyuz-2.1b rocket, has been successfully put into working orbit using the Fregat upper stage, as reported by Roscosmos.
The Arctic-M hydro-meteorological satellites were created on the basis of the unified Navigator platform manufactured by S. A. Lavochkin NPO. The satellites will provide round-the-clock all-weather monitoring of the Earth's surface and the seas of the Arctic Ocean, as well as constant and reliable communication.
In addition, the satellites are able to relay signals from the radio beacons of the international search and rescue system COSPAS-SARSAT, TASS notes.
