President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the republic is interested in a speedy development of the Northern Sea Route and its use for export purposes.
"The Northern Sea Route. We would really like this program to be implemented faster: it would be easier for us to work," Lukashenko said, speaking at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
The Northern Sea Route is the shortest sea route between the European part of Russia and the Far East. The legislation of the Russian Federation defines it as "the historically established national unified transport communication of Russia in the Arctic."
A decision to restart the Northern Sea Route was made in 2017 by the Russian president, RIA Novosti notes.
