The Northern Fleet and the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) are organizing a new expedition to the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in August, TASS reports citing Sergei Zinchenko, head of the Northern Fleet headquarters department.

The expedition will include scientists, in particular a group of seismologists. Zinchenko noted that several islands and straits were discovered during the previous complex expedition of 2020.

“As part of this year’s work, it is planned to go around the Novaya Zemlya archipelago and the Severny Island. A comprehensive expedition of the Northern Fleet and the Russian Geographical Society is planned for August this year and will last two weeks,” Zinchenko said.
