Russia to abolish border control for aircraft delivering cargo to the Arctic

03 april 2024

Russia will abolish border, customs and other types of controls for aircraft delivering people and goods to and from the Arctic. The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted the corresponding law on April 2.

The law is intended to increase the efficiency of conducting drifting scientific research expeditions in the Arctic Ocean and its constituent seas.

The initiative gives the right to repeatedly cross the state border of the Russian Federation outside the designated air corridors without passing border, customs and other types of control for Russian aircraft delivering people and goods from the Russian Federation to Russian vessels located in the Arctic Ocean.

The same will be applicable for the specified vessels, if the place of departure and arrival will be Russian ports without entering the internal waters and territorial seas of foreign states.

The departure and landing of ships can be carried out from airfields, heliports and landing sites of the Russian Federation, including those not open for international flights.

The law will enter into force 30 days after the date of its official publication, pnp.ru reports.
