Regular transportation from Arkhangelsk to China along the NSR to begin in 2024

10 may 2024

The authorities of the Arkhangelsk region signed an agreement with logistics operators on regular cargo transportation to China along the Northern Sea Route (NSR).

The first cargo shipment from Arkhangelsk to Shanghai along the NSR took place in September 2023 and lasted 22 days, twice as short as through the Suez Canal. Regional authorities expect that in 2024 the number of cargo transportation sails will increase to 10 - 12.

Ke Jin from Yangpu Newnew Shipping Co, a partner of the Russian carrier Torgmall, represented the Chinese side at negotiations.

“We are launching regular sea transportation between Arkhangelsk and China. Today an agreement was signed between the regional government, the Arkhangelsk Sea Trade Port and the Torgmall company,” according to the Telegram channel of the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Alexander Tsybulsky cited by TASS.

The port's design capacity is about 11 million tons of cargo per year. As of now, it processes up to 6.5 million tons of cargo annually.
