A repair, maintenance and modernization programme has started at the fourth power unit of the Kola nuclear power plant in the Murmansk region.
According to the NPP Communications Department, the work performed during the scheduled preventive maintenance will increase the reliability of all power unit systems. The repair will last 41 days.
In accordance with the schedule, maintenance will include a reactor core overhaul, as well as major steam generators repairs. Additionally, modernization of the main circulation pump connectors and the technological systems of the primary circuit is planned.
In the turbine room, steam turbines and turbo generators will be installed. In addition, electrical equipment and safety-critical systems will be repaired.
It is noted that currently, three power units at the Kola NPP are operational, and provide a total load of 1000 MW. The level of background radiation in the area of the nuclear power plant is 0.07 mSv/hour, within natural background levels, b-port.com reports.
