Geologists went on an expedition to the Barents Sea from Arkhangelsk

04 june 2024
The scientific research vessel "Professor Molchanov" with the expedition of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean set sail from Arkhangelsk.

Scientists will conduct geological survey work in the Northwestern part of the Barents Sea using multipath sonar and a multi-voyage bottom sampling system.

According to the head of the expedition, Evgeny Gusev, the purpose of the research is to map the outcrops to the surface of the seabed of the upper horizons of the sedimentary cover of Mesozoic age. This will make it possible to clarify the geological maps of the Arctic shelf.

The ship will return to Arkhangelsk on June 20, b-port.com reports.
