A radio station in the north of China has begun broadcasting information about the current situation on Arctic waterways to ensure the safety of navigation.
Based on satellite data, the station in the city of Tianjin transmits information about the thickness of ice and weather forecasts in the area of the Bering Strait, Dmitry Laptev Strait, Vilkitsky Strait, as well as the Kara Gate Strait.
Radio broadcasting will be conducted annually from July 1 to October 31 for single-band radiotelephones.
The launch of radio broadcasting makes it possible to fill the gap in information about maritime safety on Arctic shipping routes, thereby ensuring the safety of navigation for Chinese ships, 1prime.ru notes.
