Norilsk Nickel provides stable Internet to Norilsk

15 july 2024

Norilsk Nickel continues to work on providing Norilsk with reliable high-speed Internet. The company has completed the laying of a backup fiber optic line from Novy Urengoy to Norilsk, increasing the reliability of the Internet for residents of the region.

The total length, taking into account the reserve channel, was 2,000 km. The bandwidth of the channel is 200 Gbit/s.

Most of the Internet channel passes through the tundra, in harsh climatic conditions, far from settlements and roads.

A special feature of the project was the construction of an underwater section of the communication line running along the bottom of the Yenisei. The length of this section was 8 km, including a backup channel.

The laying of a broadband line creates a foundation for the development of the infrastructural potential of the Taimyr Peninsula and the Arctic as a whole, 24rus.ru notes.
