Ice-class tankers for the Northern Sea Route can be built together with Chinese companies, said Igor Sechin, head of Rosneft, executive secretary of the presidential Commission on Fuel and Energy development strategy.

According to him, one of the promising areas of potential cooperation is the development of Arctic resources, where the Northern Sea Route project is currently under development. It is the shortest route for the delivery of Russian energy resources to Asia.

"For the operation of the NSR, a high-ice class tanker fleet will be required, which can be created in cooperation with Chinese shipbuilders and suppliers of components," Sechin said at the Russian-Chinese energy business forum, rzd-partner.ru reports.
