Expert name countries interested in joint development of the Arctic with Russia

29 july 2024

Russia cannot explore the Arctic alone, so it is open to entering into partnership agreements. The countries interested in this activity were named by Alexander Vorotnikov, coordinator of the Expert Council of the Arctic Development Project Office.

"We cannot explore the Arctic alone, so we offer many projects in which other countries can participate. We are eager to cooperate," he said.

According to Vorotnikov, China is currently involved in Arctic projects. Beijing is interested in developing the Northern Sea Route, as it is the shortest route from that part of Asia to Europe.

In addition, the neighbors who are observers of the Arctic Council - India and the UAE - are capable of dialogue. They have already signed an agreement with Rosatom and created a partnership that will deal with the reconstruction of ports and the organization of transportation along the Northern Sea Route. Vorotnikov also expressed confidence that South Korea may be interested in this because of Russian liquefied natural gas, lenta.ru reports.
