Logistics operator launches cargo route from China to St. Petersburg through Arctic

09 august 2024

A Russian logistics company Business Lines has launched a new transport route along the Northern Sea Route (NSR), thanks to which the delivery time of goods has been reduced by 10 days to 25 days.

Goods travel from Asian countries through the NSR directly to the port of St. Petersburg via the Arctic Ocean, bypassing transport delays on the Trans-Siberian railway.

"The development of our new logistics route has become possible thanks to the modernization of technologies and improved navigation conditions in the Arctic. Specially prepared vessels are able to overcome ice up to 2 meters thick, which allows them to safely pass through the Northern Sea Route even in winter," the Business Lines press service said.

According to the statistics of the logistics operator, imports from China prevail in the Asian direction, accounting for more than 70% of all shipments in the first half of 2024, newprospect.ru reports.
