In 2024, Russia may transport a record 40 million tons of cargo along the Northern Sea Route (NSR), which is 10% higher than last year, said Vladimir Panov, special representative of the State Corporation for Arctic Development.
"If we talk about numbers, the record of the Soviet Union was 6.8 million tons in 1987, and this year we expect a new record - up to 40 million tons," he said, speaking at the Arctic Regions forum in Arkhangelsk. Cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route in 2023 reached 36.254 million tons, half of the volume was provided by the supply of liquefied natural gas from the Yamal LNG project of Novatek.
It was reported that another Novatek LNG plant, Arctic LNG-2, which has been unable to export products for more than six months due to sanctions and a lack of gas carriers, may soon begin selling its produce.
According to satellite data, a vessel capable of transporting LNG is moored in the waters near the Utrenny terminal, itek.ru reports.
