Arkhangelsk’s deep-water port is at design stage

16 august 2024

The construction of a deep-water port in Arkhangelsk is at the design stage as the declaration of intent is being prepared, b-port.com reports.

According to the governor of the Arkhangelsk region Alexander Tsybulsky, the design capacity of the port with a maximum allowable draft of 14.5 m is more than 19 million tons per year, and in the future 15-20 years the port can reach a total cargo turnover of 50 million tons.

The Arkhangelsk Region is currently negotiating with Severstal, which is considering the possibility of its participation in this project.

"The visits of Chinese ships to Arkhangelsk have shown that various cargoes can be handled through this port. Now we have transshipment of Chinese spare parts to the Tula Automobile Plant for large-scale assembly, construction cranes, consumer goods in our port," commented Dmitry Yurkov, representative of the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region for the development of the Arctic.
