First LNG carrier with Arctic LNG-2 products voyages along NSR

23 september 2024

The Everest Energy carrier with a cargo of Russian gas from the Arctic LNG-2 project passed through the Northern Sea Route (NSR) for the first time and approached the Russian floating storage facility Koryak UGS, according to LSEG ship tracking data.

Everest Energy, which was sanctioned by the United States last month, was spotted about 100 km from Koryak UGS in the Far East. The final destination of the cargo has not been disclosed.

Bloomberg previously wrote that at least three vessels approached Arctic LNG-2, and the United States immediately imposed sanctions on all of them.

According to the agency, 5 cargoes have been sent from Arctic LNG-2, three of them are on the way, and two are in UGS near Murmansk.

The last two cargoes were shipped in September, and they strive to pass the Northern Sea Route as soon as possible so as not to get into a difficult ice situation, oilcapital.ru reports.
