New Russian nuclear icebreaker’s reactor launched

08 october 2024

Engineers at the Baltic Plant together with representatives of counterparty organizations launched the starboard reactor plant on the nuclear icebreaker Yakutia (Project 22220), b-port.com reports.

The reactor was brought to a minimally controlled power level, and the launch equipment was calibrated. The physical start-up of the plant was nominal. Upon completion of work on the portside reactor, specialists will begin comprehensive tests of the entire nuclear power plant of Yakutia, consisting of two RITM-200 reactors.

"The most important stage of icebreaker construction has begun, during which the nuclear "heart" of the vessel will be hammered at full capacity, complex mooring tests of the order will be carried out, after which Yakutia will be able to go to sea for trials for the first time," said Alexander Konovalov, General Director of the Baltic Plant.
