Cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) will amount to 37.6 million tons of cargo by the end of the year, which will be a record number, said Vladimir Panov, special representative of the Rosatom State Corporation for the Arctic.
"[Year] to date, 33.1 million tons [of cargo] have already been transported along the Northern Sea Route. If you look at it compared to the previous year, it is about 5.3% more. And we are now heading for another projected record of transportation along the Northern Sea Route at 37.6 million tons [of cargo]," he said.
At the same time, the volume of transit traffic through the NSR exceeded 3 million tons. "A record has been set for transit traffic along the Northern Sea Route, which reached 3,8 million tons. This is about 43% more than last year," Panov said.
According to him, it was possible to achieve such indicators due to the growth of shipments of PJSC Novatek, as well as the redirection of goods from the Suez Canal, which are shipped from the ports of St. Petersburg and Murmansk, to the Northern Sea Route, tass.ru reports.
