Underwater unmanned drone with AI presented at Arctic Forum

17 december 2024

An autonomous uninhabited underwater vehicle with an array of manipulators, artificial intelligence-based software and precise technical vision was presented in St. Petersburg at the XIV International forum "The Arctic: Present and Future".

The device is capable of performing a wide range of industrial and scientific tasks, including in harsh Arctic conditions, marketing director of the Oceanos Research and Production Enterprise for underwater technologies Nadezhda Kuchumova told TASS.

"The system is able to navigate independently, choose the necessary tools and operate according to its flexible algorithms in various fields," she said.

When designing the device, engineers primarily needed to tackle industrial problems in the Arctic and the Far East, in particular, in the field of hydrocarbon and solid minerals production at underwater mining complexes. As a rule, remote-controlled devices are now used to service such underwater mining complexes and their systems, requiring the close presence of the operator on the ship.

Kuchumova noted that the working depth of the unmanned vehicle can reach 1 km, depending on the configuration, tailored for a specific task.
