The volume of freight cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) in 2024 set new a record. The volume of cargo transportation amounted to 37.9 million tons within 12 months, 1.6 million tons more than in 2023, Rosatom state corporation said.
"Also in 2024, a record number of transit ships made it through the NSR - 92 - and set a record for transit cargo at more than three million tons," the report says.
Other records include the number of applications for shipping in the waters of the NSR. In 2024, there were 1,312 of them. Before that, the maximum number was 1,228. Last year, the largest container ship in history passed through the NSR with a length of 294 meters.
