Arctic to become testing grounds for a number of new technologies

21 february 2025

The Arctic is a unique “mega-laboratory” where scientists can test new materials and technologies for use in a variety of areas, believes Marat Yeseyev, scientific director of the Russian Arctic Research and Education Center at the Arctic Federal University.

"The Arctic region is also a point where you can get a direct effect from the implementation of these technologies: through the extraction of minerals, through [the development] of the transport infrastructure of the Northern Sea Route," TASS quotes the expert as saying at the Future Technologies Forum.

"[There are] promising developments in the field of measuring equipment. For example, robotic systems for measuring the internal diameters of pipelines. This is also relevant for Gazprom, there are orders," he added.

The 2025 Future Technologies Forum is being held with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Science Foundation, and the Russian Quantum Center.
