US president Donald Trump has voiced new details of the plan to develop a $44 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Alaska.
“The administration is working on a gigantic natural gas pipeline in Alaska, among the largest in the world, where Japan, South Korea and other nations want to be our partner with investment of trillions of dollars each,” he stated during the address to the Congress, as cited by High North News.
The plans include a 1,300 kilometer-long pipeline to carry the gas from Alaska’s North to a yet-to-be-built terminal in the state’s South, near Nikiski.
South Korea and Japan allegedly supported the project amid president Trump’s threat of increased tariffs.
The Alaska LNG project may rival Russia’s Arctic LNG-2 plant that was put under sanctions due to the invasion of Ukraine.
