Companies from the Asia-Pacific region are interested in using the capabilities of the Northern Sea Route (NSR), Russian transport minister Andrey Nikitin said.
According to him, Chinese companies have already switched from test sails to regular container shipments to Europe via the NSR. India, Japan and other countries of the Asia-Pacific region are also showing interest, and consider the route as a promising way for cargo delivery, the minister said.
As Russian deputy prime minister Vitaly Saveliev said earlier, by 2030, cargo traffic along the shortest shipping route between Europe and Asia through the Arctic seas of Russia will reach 70-109 million tons.
