Nornickel launches five unique wells at the Pelyatkinskoye gas field

14 september 2026

Norilskgazprom (part of the Nornickel Group) has commissioned five new production wells at the Pelyatkinskoye gas condensate field.

This marks the first large-scale project at Taimyr’s primary gas asset in the last decade; it will meet the growing needs of the company’s Norilsk operations, as well as the social infrastructure in the cities of Norilsk and Dudinka. The company invested RUB 10 billion in the project.

"The five new wells will enable us to supply the gas volumes necessary for expanding metallurgical production capacities and new mining development projects, and for the construction of the third stage of the Talnakh Concentrator. We will also be able to guarantee gas supplies to social infrastructure facilities in Norilsk and Dudinka, which is one of our key priorities," commented Sergey Fedorov, first vice president and chief operating officer of Nornickel.

Located 170 km northwest of Dudinka, the Pelyatkinskoye field is the primary gas source for the Norilsk Industrial district, accounting for 80% of all natural gas production in Taimyr. The project has added a combined production capacity of 2 million cubic meters of gas per day.

The wells were drilled using a Russian-made, 1,200-tonne wheeled rig, comparable in height to a 20-storey building.
