Russia, US mull cooperation on Arctic resource development

03 november 2026

Russia and the US could collaborate in the Arctic on projects involving the development of natural resource deposits or joint liquefied natural gas (LNG) ventures, Russia’s deputy prime minister Alexander Novak stated.

"When it comes to the Arctic zone, we are talking about the development of resource deposits or participation in joint projects for the liquefaction of natural gas - areas that are currently seeing active development in Russia," he noted.

"There is a need, including from our American partners, to develop the relevant infrastructure for extraction and for the production of liquefied natural gas."

According to the minister, "this is currently only a matter of discussion; we shall see how things unfold."
