(ehudlaniado.com) - For the past year and half, I have been analyzing and discussing the diamond sector. Like any other economic sector, it has its share of ups and downs, and changes in demand, prices, supply, financing, and more. Up to this point the discussion has centered on technical aspects of the diamond sector – how it reacts to change and what changes are necessary to move forward. The discussion now needs to move forward in order to consider diamonds' role in a wider context. From a distance it appears that consumers are primarily interested in very specific goods, and that the industry is fighting tooth and nail to provide these goods. As a result, the main focus has been costs, prices, and profit margins. It is time to expand that focus, first and foremost by thinking about how to take charge of the direction, instead of simply following consumers’ fickle tastes. We need to take control of our destiny.
