Why Not All Lab-Grown Diamonds Are Created Equal
17 april 2023
(jckonline.com) - Imagine two round brilliant-cut diamonds displayed side by side. Each is 1 ct. in size, F color, VS2 clarity. One is a natural, mined diamond and the other is lab-grown. Most retailers have been taught that beyond their disparate origins, the diamonds are chemically, optically, and physically identical, and that’s the message they’ve conveyed to consumers. “For years, the trade has repeated these sentiments: that lab and natural diamonds are indistinguishable from each other,” says Lindsay Reinsmith, chief operating officer and director of sales at Ada Diamonds, a lab-grown, direct-to-consumer diamond brand based in San Francisco. “We’re seeing so many more reductive claims that this is an indistinguishable product and that’s not the case,” adds Jason Payne, Reinsmith’s husband and CEO of Ada Diamonds.
India’s lab diamonds give jitters to global markets
14 april 2023
(sundayguardianlive.com) - Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s recent focus on lab-grown diamonds has set the proverbial cat among pigeons in the global diamond markets. And it is because India is a top player in the global diamond market. India’s prowess to push lab-grown diamonds is well known. Many top Indian merchants wanted to push this segment almost a decade-and-a-half ago, but were prevented and even maligned by some of the world’s top diamond brands who argued for natural, mined diamonds. Lab-grown diamonds—it is reliably learnt—were even branded wrongly as fake. But now, the markets have changed, lab-grown diamonds are a $22 billion market across the world.
Could the Middle East Be The ‘New China’ For Luxury Brands?
13 april 2023
() - Luxury brands are no strangers to the Middle East market, with the likes of Dubai and Abu Dhabi establishing themselves as magnets for high-end names in recent decades. Yet these markets have remained largely in the shadow of other top luxury markets like China — which over the past 15 years has carved out a crucial position in luxury retail. This year, mainland China’s luxury consumption is poised to return to positive growth, following a COVID-impacted 2022 that saw the market decline 10 percent year-over-year (its first such drop in five years). However, widespread concerns about the health of global luxury demand are pushing a growing number of brands to reconceptualize their China strategy.
Implats CEO forecasts “squeeze” in PGM industry forcing new collaboration
12 april 2023
(miningmx.com) - IMPALA Platinum (Implats) CEO, Nico Muller said the structure of South Africa’s platinum group metals (PGM) industry could change owing to “a squeeze” in processing capacity that would force miners to equity finance new expansion or form joint ventures. “It is unlikely the same terms will be offered to new entrants which could change the shape of the industry,” Muller said. “There will be fierce competition for space in the processing arena.”
Diamond Analytics Forecast: When Will Lab-Grown Diamond Sales Be the Majority?
11 april 2023
(edahngolan.com) - At some point, more lab-grown diamonds will be sold than naturals. This is a given and does not even require any diamond analytics, as natural diamonds are a finite resource, and over time, their supply will dwindle. Lab-grown diamonds are factory made, and the raw materials for producing them are nearly infinite. Lab-grown diamonds sales will eventually outpace naturals. The question is not if but when this will happen.
