(Rapaport) Interfax - ALROSA has not yet revised its forecast for 3 percent growth in rough diamond prices this year, despite a drop in demand for the gems in January and February, the company's first vice president, Igor Sobolev, told reporters. "We haven't yet revised the growth forecast; it would not be right to on the basis of the first two months. Even so, we see demand slackened in January and February. Clients still have sizable stock. We didn't change our prices in January and lowered them slightly in February to support the market," Sobolev said.

Rough trading picked up as a result of De Beers Sight price reductions of about 2% during the February Sight. But the damp squib for the industry came in the form of the Union Budget 2015-16, which was announced at the end of the month and was a major disappointment.

(www.jckonline.com) - Every year around Valentine’s Day - though, blessedly, not so much this year - articles appear calling diamond prices inflated and artificial. The question underlying these articles is always: “Why do diamonds cost so much?” As much as these articles annoy the trade, it’s a fair question. There remains a lot of consumer ignorance about jewelry products. But that’s not their fault; it’s ours.
